Dympna O'Brien is originally from a teaching background. She started training and practising massage in 1993, starting with Holistic Massage and then adding Thai Yoga Massage, Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage and Reiki, as well as lots of CPD workshops. She is also an NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming) practitioner. She loves teaching and learning and has a special interest in ‘language’ and its therapeutic impact. Dympna has been facilitating massage courses and various workshops for hundreds of years (time flies when you're having fun) and teaches using accelerated learning principles. She is co-founder of Quantum Metta and Principal Tutor on our Thai Yoga Massage and Holistic Massage Diplomas. Apart from teaching, massaging clients and running QM, Dympna loves to read – especially stuff to do with the mind, body, spirit.
Her claim to fame is she can write backwards and has run a marathon – forwards!
Doreen Uzice has been practising massage since 1993, continuing further training in aromatherapy, Indian head massage, reiki, acupressure, Thai yoga massage, NLP, accelerated learning and loads of CPD workshops. She started teaching fairly soon after qualifying (nothing quite like jumping in the deep end), and fortunately had a career in management training and development in a former life. Having co-founded Quantum Metta School of Massage in 2003 she now spends her time teaching, practising massage, chatting and writing. Doreen's the principal tutor of our Aromatherapy and Holistic Massage courses. She also teaches on the Thai Yoga Massage and Indian Head Massage courses. She's an examiner and is the Education Chair for the IFA (International Federation of Aromatherapists). This is her third year of being on the IFA Council. Doreen also teaches and practises Chi Kung and is currently completing an advanced course in Chi Kung.
She used to be able to count to 100 in Japanese, but says through lack of practice can now only make it up to eleven.
Zena Khan first came to massage in the autumn of 1997. After completing the diploma in Holistic Massage, she went on to become an Infant Massage Instructor through the International Association of Infant Massage, and then learned On-site Chair Massage. Zena has also studied massage for pregnancy, Chavutti Thirumal, Indian Head Massage and Thai Yoga massage. In 2002 she completed the City and Guilds Further and Adult Teaching Certificate.
Zena works full time as a massage therapist and teacher of massage. She has her own on-site chair massage company, Hands on People, visiting massage-hungry office workers, and also has a home practice where she does massage and Hopi ear candling. Zena is a principal teacher on our Holistic Massage, Indian Head Massage, Massage in Pregnancy and Onsite Chair Massage courses.
She has a knack of doing funny things with her eyebrows, and keeps us well stocked up on homemade cupcakes, yum.
Gary Fannin's background is in acting. He performed one of the lead roles in the west-end show ‘The Reduced Shakespeare Company’ for many years. He has acted in and directed a number of plays and short films. Gary is also a qualified therapist in Holistic Massage, Thai Yoga Massage, Hot Stone Massage and Reiki and teaches introductory courses in Thai Yoga Massage and assists on the Holistic Massage Diploma and Thai Yoga Massage Practitioner Courses. Gary is the genial host of our networking events, Networking4Therapists, which was formed with the aim of bringing together like-minded people for support and connection. He has a relaxed and informal style that really helps people enter into the spirit of the evening and get the most out of it. These are now popular quarterly meetings with guest speakers. The services of N4T have also grown to include web-design and hosting for complementary therapists. Gary can be contacted directly by email.
Gary loves to sing and play guitar (he's pretty good), and plays a mean hand at poker.
Louise Bateman began a career in dance 25 years ago. She taught dance and choreographed for a number of schools for over 18 years. She has also coached a gymnastics and taught dance with a regional boys squad, as well as choreographed and coached a team of twenty-five gymnasts that toured around Berlin for Gymastrada and choreographed another team involved in the Surrey Pera Production of Aide Verdi that toured around the south east.
Louise qualified as a Massage Therapist and then in Sports and Remedial Massage, and set up a clinic soon after. She continued to study and gain further knowledge in Advanced Massage Techniques as well as a teaching qualification. Louise has a wide client base including cricketers, hockey players, rugby players, bodybuilders, as well as treating people with non-sports related conditions and injuries. Louise is the principal tutor on our Sports Injuries and Massage courses. She has a passion for sharing her knowledge and has been teaching Sports Massage for a number of years.
Tatina Semprini came to complementary therapies in 1999. She trained in Body Massage, Aromatherapy, Sports Massage, Chair Massage, No Hands Massage and Thermo-Auricular Therapy (Hopi Ear Candling). Tatina has worked as a full time massage therapist in various clinics since 2001. She has also provided aromatherapy massages for autistic adults. Her chair massage work has taken her into offices, banks and hospitals working with staff there. In 2003 she was invited to work with students and teachers at one of London's larger professional dance schools, where she has been massaging regularly ever since. She has recently also started working with the dancers of the Royal Ballet in London. Tatina facilitates a number of our CPD workshops.
Tatina says that when she grows up she wants to be a dancer, in the meantime she'll make do with massaging dancers.
Richard Leadbeater has been a massage practitioner since 1984 and a massage teacher since 1988. He specialises in teaching anatomy, physiology and pathology to students and practitioners in the field of holistic health, including massage, yoga, fitness training and body-oriented psychotherapy. This enables him to relate theoretical information to practical application for the health practitioner.
Richard is also a senior examiner for the Massage Training Institute and a member of its Assessment Committee. He was a member of the working party which drafted the National Occupational Standards for massage in the UK and continues to be involved in the process of regulation of massage standards and practice.
Richard cites his most treasured possessions as being his electric guitar and his skis. His buddy in the pic is ‘Tall Paul’.
Helen Rohlicek was previously in nursing, then started training in complementary therapies. She now has over 20 years experience in complementary forms of healing including: Shiatsu Massage, Reflexology, Therapeutic Massage, Hypnotherapy, Reiki, Ashumu (Reiki Ray), EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), and Maya Abdominal Massage. She is a combinative healer specialising in energy therapies and since 2001 has travelled around the globe researching indigenous medicine, including time in Mexico and Peru, learning directly from Shamen in both the coastal and Amazon traditions. Most recently, she has formed the Wise Woman School of Massage to teach the healing techniques of Abdominal-Sacral Massage. This pioneering course is run in association with Quantum Metta.
Helen dreams of painting a fab aboriginal-style painting. She says, one day she’ll stop dreaming and actually do it! But that's what she loves to do… dream.
