Homoeopathic Remedies
Illustration of the plant Arnica MontanaThere are certain homoeopathic remedies which are particularly helpful to keep at home so that you can treat yourself and your family suffering minor ailments or minor injuries. I run regular clinics on homoeopathy and first aid. Below are a few remedies which are particularly helpful for first aid.
Arnica: a remedy I am sure many of you have heard of and some of you may have probably used.
Arnica is made from a whole fresh plant including the root.
Arnica should be the first choice after most accidents, injuries or physical ordeals. Given early it will reduce swelling and bruising. Arnica is also excellent for jet lag and general travel fatigue. It also helps muscles make better use of oxygen at high altitude. It can be used for any form of physical trauma or over exertion.
Aconite is made from the whole plant with root when beginning to flower.
It is a great remedy for conditions arising from over exposure to the elements. For example, chills after getting wet. It is also useful in the early stages of fevers and inflammations. Useful for complaints which come on suddenly, perhaps after a shock.
Apis is a great remedy for bites and stings.
Ledum: a remedy made of dried small twigs and leaves.
The number one remedy for puncture wounds and black eyes. Has reputed anti-tetanus properties. Use to treat deep wounds (e.g. those caused by nails) and bites from both animals and insects.
Bellis Perennis is made of the whole fresh plant. In olden days it was know as “wound wort” or “bruise wort” this shows one of the main uses of Bellis. No. 1 remedy for injuries to the deeper tissues. Similar to Arnica but works at a deeper level. Excellent remedy after operations. Also for sprains and bruises.
